North:
The North was more industrial than the the South. There are many more industries in the North than the South. The South had 110,000 industries compared to the North who had 20,000 industries. The North was more technology wise than the South. The North had 70% of the railroads of the whole nation. North was more abolitionist than the South, which favored them in the Compromise of 1850. The North had more military weapon supply; guns, ammunitions, etc...
The North was wealthier than the South, because they had more banks, and more money invested in the economy. Increased population
South:
The South had a good reputation for it's military colleges. These colleges formed generals and captains for war. Most of the war declared by the South were won. The war strength of the South was that they wouldn't declare war, but defend themselves. But the South was known for a major activity; raising cotton. They made over 70% of world wide cotton, and were the nation with the strongest exports of cotton.
